🎀 Cute Composer PRIDE MONTH Edition — Love Stories in Music 🏳️‍🌈🎶 Benjamin Britten (1913–1976) was an English composer and the most performed opera composer born in the 20th century 🎭✨ — more than Puccini and Strauss combined if you count only works written after 1900!! He and his partner, tenor Peter Pears, shared one of music history's great love stories — 35 years together, composing and performing as one, at a time when their relationship was not only unspeakable but illegal in England. Every tenor role Britten wrote was shaped entirely around Peter's voice, making their love literally inseparable from his greatest works — including the opera Peter Grimes and the earth-shattering War Requiem. Before he died, Britten urged his biographer: "Tell the truth about Peter and me." 🥹 Samuel Barber (1910–1981) was an American Neo-Romantic composer whose Adagio for Strings is one of the MOST emotionally devastating pieces ever written 😭 — played at the funerals of JFK and Einstein, broadcast after 9/11, and used in the film Platoon. He met his lifelong partner and collaborator, composer Gian Carlo Menotti, as a teenager at the Curtis Institute of Music.
