Jennifer Lin is a veteran journalist, who was stationed in Beijing, New York and Washington, D.C. for The Philadelphia Inquirer. BEYOND YELLOWFACE is her third film project. In 2013, she produced GEIL OF DOYLESTOWN: FORGOTTEN EXPLORER. In 2021, she produced and co-directed BEETHOVEN IN BEIJING, which premiered nationally on PBS’s Great Performances and was a finalist for the Library of Congress Lavine/Ken Burns Prize for Film. The project also received production support from the National Endowment for Humanities. Jennifer has written two books, Shanghai Faithful: Betrayal and Forgiveness in a Chinese Christian Family (Rowman & Littlefield, 2017) and Beethoven in Beijing: Stories from the Philadelphia Orchestra’s Historic Journey to China (Temple University Press, 2022).

Join us Sunday, February 15, at the downtown Monroe County Public Library Auditorium for a screening of the documentary Beethoven in Beijing, which showcases the Philadelphia Orchestra’s historic journey to Beijing in 1973.

Doors open at 1:00 PM for live pre-concert music featuring piano works by Tan Dun and chamber music by Daixuan Ai, with the film screening beginning at 1:30 PM.

A post-film discussion will follow, led by composer Daixuan Ai, alongside filmmaker Jennifer Lin and hostess Carina Wahlstrom. The event will conclude at 3:30 PM.

This screening is free and open to the public. Attendees will also have a chance to win a signed copy of Jennifer Lin’s book, Beethoven in Beijing: Stories from the Philadelphia Orchestra’s Historic Journey to China.
